Appropriate Ice Skating Dresses

Ice Skating is a popular sport in many communities. Figuring out what to wear can be a real challenge for both skaters and parents. Having an understanding of the different types of skating can help in knowing what to wear. There are ice skating dresses for practice, casual wear, and competition. Knowing what to wear will keep the skater warm, looking good, and allowing them to have maximum movement while skating. Buying a dress off the rack may mean altering the outfit before a performance to make sure it fits and is comfortable.

When skating as an amateur for casual skating, dressing in thin layers is important. Layers will give the skater a chance to undress as they warm up. The skaters should not wear heavy bulky sweaters, those outfits will allow the sbody to overheat too quickly. Ice skating dresses that have long sleeves and light material work best for indoor skating. The more you skate the warmer you will become on the ice. Wearing tights are also important. If you don’t have tights, wearing leggings will help keep you warm and give you the extra padding you will need for falls, or spills on the rink floor.

Outdoor skating is a little different. Again, your skating dress should be light and the outfit should be in layers so that undressing as the skater warms up will be easy. Make sure the skater does not wear things that hang off the body. They can cause visual problems, or can get caught in the skate blades if an accident should find them on the ground struggling to get up. Gloves should be worn to protect the hands. Elbow and knee pads can protect the extremities.

For professional skating or competition the skating dresses are important. Many professional skaters have their own costume makers to make something specifically for the performance. The outfit should fit the venue. Think about colors and styles that will accent the event. If the competition is about a specific time period dress accordingly. Make sure the outfit complements the music. For example, jazz music may warrant the skater wearing something funky, or jazzy with a lot of glitz. They may even choose to wear a dress that depicts the roaring twenties era. That same jazzy outfit would not fit a competition highlighting the story of the Lion King.

Skating dresses have accessories that should match and function to protect the skater from the cold. Gloves, matching high quality tights, and hair ties that keep the hair from the face all accent and make the whole outfit functional and memorable. All skaters should have a minimum of four outfits. The outfits should be different enough that they are appropriate for more than one type of competition or event. The ice skating dress should also be age appropriate and not too risque for any venue. Figure skating dresses are the one thing people talk about after any event, but finding the right dress for the occasion can be difficult.
